Dedicated to preserving the experience of watching silent film comedy

We're doing these shows because we believe in silent comedy film, and we know from our years of experience that silent film is accessible to a general audience, when presented correctly. Most people have only seen silent comedy on TV with bad music and corny sound effects, and have been turned off by it.

Both Bruce and I grew up watching silent film and silent film comedy, either on Channel 13 or in someone's home theater. Bruce's grandfather was a collector, as well as being a Director of Photography and a film restoration consultant (Bruce's great-grandfather was a cameraman during the silent era). I grew up in the same town that Walter Kerr lived in. (Walter Kerr was a Pulitzer Prize winning drama critic for the NY Times, and also the author of ÒThe Silent ClownsÓ, a landmark book on silent film comedy). I got to know Mr. Kerr, also a collector, who invited me to his house a few times a year to watch silent comedies.

We believe that silent film comedy holds up extremely well and deserves to be seen. Silent film, and silent comedy is shown, and usually with a live score, and usually as a single event or as 2 or 3 week retrospective. We're trying to fill in the gaps between these shows by offering a regular series of film shows.
